Volunteer: Life Advocates

UpWorks seeks to be an advocate in assisting underprivileged, underemployed, and unemployed individuals to achieve sustainable, above poverty, fulltime employment. UpWorks will address an individual’s barriers to employment by providing mentors who will collaborate with nonprofits and supportive business partners.

Life Advocates support a Covenant Client by using personal skills and life experience in the areas of work, faith, and life.

  • Do you have a heart for those who are facing the challenges of poverty?
  • Are you interested in seeing our communities become stronger?
  • Are you willing to share your life learning to encourage others?

How does becoming a Life Advocate benefit you?

  • You will be enriched by the relationship with a client.
  • You will make a difference in the life of someone who desires guidance.
  • You will potentially discover more about God’s purpose for your life.

What is required of me?

  • Complete a ½ day Life Advocate training session.
  • Commit to meet 1 hour per week for three months with a client gaining employment.
  • Communicate regular updates & insights with UpWorks staff via email or phone.

What exactly will I do as a Life Advocate?

  • Provide guidance to clients as you discuss work, faith and life joys and challenges.
  • Promote and utilize learning opportunities for skills or knowledge needed.
  • Work with UpWorks to provide resources (e.g. bus passes) and identify other services to ensure the greatest potential for employment success.
  • Demonstrate care & Christian values along the way as relationships are developed.
