Empowering Adults Participant Success!

Javier

As a child, Javier grew up in a home filled with addiction and by the time he was a preteen he was on the path to being addicted himself. While working with UpWorks and his Life Advocates, Javier completed his Self-Discovery realizing he had a passion for warehouse logistics and electrical work. Javier landed a job with Pace Industries as a forklift operator starting at $15.50 per hour. In three short months, Javier has been promoted and is now making $18.56 an hour. His employer is now sponsoring Javier’s enrollment in the electrician’s apprentice program!

Erin

After struggling with the addiction cycle, Erin came to Metro Hope Ministries- Healing House where she found Jesus as her Savior. Prior to working with her Life Advocates, she had low self-esteem, minimal confidence and little direction for her life. Through her connection to her Life Advocates, Erin discovered her passion to help others who are trying to overcome addiction. By God’s grace, Erin landed a full-time position as House Manager at Healing House. Erin has decided to enroll in college in the near future and aspires to become a licensed chemical dependency counselor.

Empowering Adults News!

Empowering & Restoring Adults has two critical partner roles in those who refer clients and those who refer volunteers to become Life Advocates.

Deepening relationships with nonprofit partners is an ongoing effort Kevin recently met the new director of Metro Hope Ministries Healing House – Haley Vancura. Haley desires to continue growth with UpWorks, recognizing the significant impact on participants completing the Empowering and Restoring Adults. To date, Healing House has referred 12 women to UpWorks since the start of 2016.

Building church relationships –
Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie has committed to deepening their partnership with UpWorks this year set a goal to recruit 40+ new Life Advocates. UpWorks has provided an ad for the weekly bulletin and we met with Way to Grow with intent to assist parents of children being                                      tutored by Wooddale Church members with employment.

Enriching Schools: Love Your Neighbor, Love Your School

Building on the vision of stronger partnerships, Enriching Schools community partnerships continue to grow. We have learned a lot from a similar model called School Connect out of Arizona. We are also learning about our community needs and the gap to meet them. The key to a successful Engaging Schools Program is relationships between school personnel, church leaders, nonprofits, companies, and government agencies. UpWorks has learned the value in holding CAFÉ (Community and Family Engagement) workshops where we listen to how pastors and principals dream together about ways to build healthier families, schools and communities. Every partner benefits from a collaborative model where volunteers are helping to meet the needs of the schools and their community.
UpWorks has a vision of volunteers meeting their communities needs through serving in the schools while being blessed by new relationships. School needs vary, but the one thing that remains the same is the need for school volunteers. UpWorks is asking church people to serve in their local schools which impacts their whole community. Serving in the school shows love to your neighbors and friends in your own backyard.
