Quarterly Newsletter – July

Welcome!

If you missed UpWorks’ Upside Breakfast celebration on June 6th, “tov” may be a word that is unfamiliar to you. Tov is a Hebrew word that means a special kind of goodness that creates more goodness; it carries unrealized potential.

At UpWorks, our staff and 100+ volunteers work everyday to develop each adult and child’s unrealized, God-given potential. The spring Upside Breakfast celebrated how God has been working in our programs and featured our Empowering Adults program. The upcoming fall Upside Breakfast will feature our Enriching Schools program.

Spring Upside Breakfast

Thank you to everyone who came out to our first Upside Breakfast – it was a success!

On June 6th we were touched by your kind words, meaningful connections, and generosity! Our keynote speaker, Ward Brehm, challenged us as he spoke on generosity. Our impact story/discussion was conducted by the Empowering Adults Director, Kevin Saunders, who lead the discussion with one of our program graduates, Kennis Littleton. Since graduating from the program Kennis has started two companies: NextStep Services and a trucking business.

With your support we reached a grand total of $30,000 in donations! Thank you for your gifts that will go towards developing individuals and strengthening communities!

On-Track 4 Employment

It is amazing how much can happen in 3-short months! Check out UpWorks newest initiative called On-Track 4 Employment. Each of us has had a unique life filled with various experiences that sometimes are not all what is needed to get and sustain employment.

On-Track 4 Employment completed its first cohort on May 28, 2019. Two of the graduates are employed and one graduate is enrolled in Barber College. Currently, we launched our T4E/Empowering Adults Campaign for this upcoming summer. Our strategy is to engage 15 churches and recruit 20 Life Advocates by the end of the summer!

On-Track 4 Employment and Empowering Adults are working together this summer to have maximum impact as we serve our Twin City residents. Please pray for us as we seek to develop individuals so they can strengthen their local communities!

Fall Upside Breakfast: Enriching Schools

Seeking Greater Goodness (Tov)

Each spring and fall, UpWorks will be holding an Upside Breakfast. The purpose is to connect with new community partners (businesses, nonprofits, churches, and schools), to share an update on the work God has blessed staff and volunteers to perform, and to raise operating funds.

This fall’s Upside Breakfast will feature the work of UpWorks’ Enriching Schools program. Enriching Schools’ Director connects schools with local churches and community partners to support the school’s goals for student achievement. While moving the entire community toward the common goal of establishing stronger schools, stronger families, and a stronger community, one student at a time.

Watch for a SAVE THE DATE notice in early August and plan on joining us!
